Abstract Gives recommendations for laboratories used for measurements of airborne and impact sound insulation of building elements where radiation from flanking elements is suppressed. Tests are carried out between two reverberant rooms of 50 m3 where the test sample is approximately 10 m2 for walls, and 10 m2 to 20 m2 for floors.

The sound source for the steady state 1/3 octave band filtered level difference can be either the existing traffic noise or noise from a loudspeaker. The results, expressed as either sound reduction index or standardized level difference can be used to determine whether facades have met acoustic specifications. Method mainly intended to measure noise reduction efficiency of double glazing.
